Herbal remedies for kidney stones ( prevention and treatment)
Below are being provided some known herbal remedies for treatment of kidney stones. But lifestyle correction is equally important as a preventive and therapeutic measure. This lifestyle correction plan has to be based on the principles of Ayurveda, which state that the cause of kidney stones is pittaj prameha, a body dysfunctional condition which is ascribed to imbalance of pitta and kapha.
- Water :
Drink plenty of water , avoiding excess though, through the day.
- Onion decoction :
Onion decoction or onion juice diluted with water—both are effective.
- Lemon juice with Olive oil :
The mixture of both serves well.
- Lemon juice with honey or black salt :
Use either honey or black mineral salt but not both.
- Coconut water :
An excellent remedy; better option is–sweet coconut water.
- Red Apple :
Fresh apple juice is also helpful in kidney stones.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
This 21st century panacea is good here also.
- Okra (Lady’s finger)
Decoction of okra in water is useful because it neutralizes the high pitta which leads to kidney stones.
- Kidney beans
Rajmah cooked with black salt or saltless or boiled or as soup are good.
- Pomegranate
Can be taken as a fruit or juice.
- Basil
Can be used as decoction or extract. Black tulsi is better than green tulsi.
- Watermelon
To be used fresh and ripe, extract or juice is still better.
- Radish
Raw or extract are very effective because they balance the body pitta which causes kidney stones.
- Figs (Anjir)
Soak a few figs overnight and in the morning drink their water first thing. You may also eat the soaked figs.
- Citrus Fruit Juices
Juices should be fresh—not made from concentrate or tetra packed.
- Pineapple juice and Cinnamon
Mixture of cinnamon powder and fresh ripe pineapple juice works beneficially in kidney stones.
- Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera juice is a good remedy here also as it pacifies the pitta and vata and balances them.
- Grapes
Juice of fresh green grapes is also pitta and vata balancing and serves well in kidney stones.
